Jupiter looking lovely in Libra

As promised here is more about Jupiter’s once in 12 years visit to Libra. Jupiter is massive! It is the largest planet in our solar system by far, and has big astrological implications as well.  Jupiter represents the opportunity principle indicating where we can optimize our good luck and move forward positively in life.  Jupiter manifests faith, hope and optimism, and acts to expand whatever he contacts. We hope the positive qualities expand, but be aware that mighty Jupiter can expand more crap as well! Jupiter rules the sign of Sagittarius in the modern zodiac and was the former ruler of Pisces before Neptune was discovered in 1846.

Jupiter entered Libra on September 9, 2016 remains in Libra until October 10, 2017. Libra is an air sign ruled by planet Venus who like her goddess namesake, represents love, grace, beauty, magnetic charm and acts to create peace, balance, justice and harmony in all she touches. Libra also emphasizes relationship and women’s issues along with culture, fashion and the arts. Its symbol is the Balanced Scales of Justice – balanced fairness reigns supreme when Libra rules. Libra’s scales also represent the perfect balance between head and heart.

Jupiter enters Libra every 12 years, and the world reacts to this heightened Venus vibration. Those of you born with Jupiter in Libra are experiencing your Jupiter return . (See years indicated below – note that in those years, Jupiter usually entered Libra in Summer or early Fall to stay for 12 months. Ex: if you are born between September 28, 1980  to October 27, 1981 you have Jupiter in Libra.) Jupiter return times activate your own opportunity principle.

Where things are out of balance when Jupiter first enters Libra, those Libra scales tend to teeter even more wildly making everyone feel dizzy. These wild swings calm down when and IF society acts to become more balanced. This is true at macro worldly levels as well as in your own life. We are collectively and personally urged by Jupiter’s giant Libra influence to find equilibrium and harmony.  As the poet Rumi born with Sun in Libra wrote, Out beyond ideas of wrongdoing and rightdoing, there is a field. I will meet you there.

The last time Jupiter traveled in Libra was September 26, 2004 through October 27, 2005. Prior to that in the 20th century Jupiter was in Libra 8 times. Which are: 1909-10, 1921-22, 1933-34, 1945-46, 1957-58, 1969-70, 1980-81 and 1992-93.

To understand what this current 2016-17 shift might signify, I looked back to each of those earlier transits. Several themes jumped out readily. They are in order of prevalence: War and Peace, Women’s, Civil rights and LGBT issues all of which Libra rules. Along with this are severe weather patterns, Earth/outer space issues, and economic concerns. I wondered about the weather and space ones, but since Libra is an air sign it’s logical, and extreme weather is an indicator of life out of balance. The economic issues in those years were also indicators of extreme imbalance in the world’s economic systems.

Libra’s scales are indicative of balance, but its “shadow side” is imbalance and extreme polarity.  As you’ll see if you look at these detailed time-line of events during the years listed above. The polarities were emphasized during most of the last Jupiter/Libra transits, while some achieved a modicum of harmony. Never-the-less Libra aches for peace and Jupiter adds momentum to this yearning. The most devastating War in human history, WWII, ended when Jupiter moved into Libra. Woodstock – an icon of peace and love for an entire generation – was celebrated with Jupiter in Libra. The First Earth Day was observed, a human being walked on the Moon, Mother Teresa was born, Ghandi  (also born with Sun in Libra) began his non-violent movement, Martin Luther King Jr. wrote his autobiography, Nelson Mandela won the Nobel Peace Prize, and women made incredible strides with Jupiter in Libra.

Personally, I’m excited when I consider the possibilities! A few have already surfaced in this new Jupiter/Libra phase like this news article from 9/27/16 only 18 days after Jupiter entered Libra, Guess What! As of Today, the Western Hemisphere has no Wars And in relationship news, always significant to Libra, on 9/19/16 Angelina Jolie filed for divorce from Brad Pitt after 12 years of being together (since 2004) which means this famous couple connected when Jupiter was last in Libra and separated the next time Jupiter entered Libra, an exact Jupiter cycle! As I always say to my clients, look back 12 years ago (Jupiter cycle) to see similar themes returning now. Try it yourself, and you’ll see. And by the way Brad Pitt has Sun in Sagittarius which is ruled by Jupiter.
